Beyond Overproduction

A Commitment Beyond Threads

At la Révolu we don’t want to contribute to overproduction which is one of the biggest problems of the fashion industry, second only to overconsumption, with around 100 Billion garments produced annually. It is estimated that the global fashion industry produces about 92 million tons of textile waste each year. A significant portion of this waste includes garments that are never sold or used.

Our pre-order and on-demand strategy not only reduces waste but also ensures that we produce pieces that are aligned with real demand. It's a sustainable model that respects the environment and values the uniqueness of each piece we create.

Capsule Collection

Our garments aren’t just about outward appearances. They carry an inward promise – a commitment to Earth. We choose fabrics and materials that respect nature, ensuring what you wear is a testament to our love for the planet.

We have chosen to produce our first capsule collection with a blend of Bemberg™ Cupro and LENZING™ ECOVERO™ Viscose. Its a soft, luxurious, lightweight fabric - also often called ‘vegan silk’, due to its silk-like properties. It is made from regenerated cellulose derived from wood-pulp & recycling cotton linters. It is a plant-based semi-synthetic fibre, meaning it is fully bio-degradable.

Not all Cupro or Viscose can be considered sustainable…

There are two main questions to ask in order to determine if a material is sustainable: how is it sourced and how is it produced?

How is it sourced?

To be considered sustainable, Cupro should be produced from pre-consumer waste, so it is important to know if the cotton linters used to produce the Cupro are in fact waste materials and not fresh virgin materials.

Our Cupro is made from 100% unused fibers, leftover from cottonseed oil production. It has the Global Recycled Standard Certification ensuring it.

The production of viscose is contributing to the rapid depletion of the worlds forests, with around 30% of wood pulp sourced coming from endangered or ancient forests. This is bad for the climate and for protecting biodiversity. So it is very important to know where the wood and wood pulp come from.

Our Viscose comes from certified and controlled sustainably managed forests. More than 99% of wood and wood pulp used by Lenzing is certified to the standards of Forest Stewardship Council and Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) or inspected in line with these standards.

How is it produced?

Cupro, short for cuprammonium rayon, is produced with chemicals which, if not handled properly, can be toxic to both people and planet.

Wood pulp is made into Viscose by, also, treating it with chemicals. This is a highly polluting process and if not managed properly releases many toxic chemicals into the air and waterways surrounding production plants.

Our Cupro and Viscose are both produced in a closed-loop manufacturing process where the chemical solvents are recovered and constantly re-used, instead of being discarded.

Our Cupro production plant has the ISO 14001 Certification which sets and ensures maintenance of an Environmental Management System.

Our Viscose production has a strict & transparent code of conduct ensuring certain standards regarding health, safety and respect for human rights, environmental protection, ethical principles and management practices. It has a 50% lower water and Co2 emissions impact compared to other generic viscose production. The water is also cleaned before returning it back to nature.

Our Cupro and Viscose fibers are blended together at a facility that has sustainability at its core.

Our producer was the first fabric producer in the world to be awarded the V-Label certificate. They also won several awards for 'sustainable business' and 'most environmentally friendly industrial plant' in Turkey.

They have also developed an innovative plant based vegetable dyeing process which reduces water usage to 32% and energy usage to 60% during the dyeing process.
